Halloween

Hi there! Just to clear it up:

The English HW was assigned to the Buttercups only, and offered, for those that want a jumpstart on next term’s HW, to the Bluebells. I have 4 Bluebell students that are interested in doing the English reading HW. FYI.

READING HOMEWORK: BUTTERCUPS

The "native English speakers" have weekly reading homework.

Each student now has an at home English reading book

See below for instuctions (due EVERY Wednesday)

2B English: Reading Homework Routine

1.    Choose an English reading book at your level:
…You are to choose a chapter book at your level. We have done this today in the library.

…Here’s how to know if the book is OK for you: hold your hand out with all 5 fingers up… turn to a random page in the book and read it… for every word you do not know or cannot read, put down 1 finger… if you have put down all 5 fingers by the end of the page, the book is too difficult…

… I will always be able to help you find a good book during library time…

2.    Read at least 30 minutes a week (will go up to 60 next term):

… You can split this up however you want: all in one time, 6 days of five minutes… whatever works best… But remember… it should be sustained reading (keeps on going)

3.    Keep track of your book in your new READING LOG!

FIRST OFF: during your reading time!
a.)  You will write down up to 5 words you do not know or have never seen before… do not write down more than 5, so choose carefully!

b.)  NOW, if you know all the words… write down 5 SPELLING PROBLEM WORDS!

c.)   You will try to learn these words by using an English dictionary, an online dictionary (like www.dictionary.com), or, if these don’t work, by asking an adult (parents? Andy?)

… FOR NOW, you will answer the same questions every week:
1.)   If it’s a new book, write down TITLE and AUTHOR
2.)   After reading your 60 minutes, write down the page number where you stopped
3.)   What was happening in the book? What were the characters doing? 2-3 sentences.
4.)   What do YOU think will happen next? 2-3 sentences (this is the most important question, as it shows me you are THINKING about what you read)

EXTRA!!!!

If you really want to aim high, try to answer one of the 89 questions from the extra sheet every week, OR AT LEAST when you finish the book!!!!!

Ask me for a copy of the questions, and I will give it to you…

A COPY OF QUESTIONS:
